Included are instructions for lighting and extinguishing candles throughout the service, creating a dramatic Good Friday effect so that, by the end, the congregation is in total darkness. Performance may be done simply with choir, piano and narration, or may be enhanced with the instrumental parts, which include a Conductor's Score and parts for 2 violins, cello, flute, clarinet and string reduction for organ or synthesizer.
