Gustave Samazeuilh was born in Bordeaux on June 2nd, 1877. He was a student of Ernest Chausson, worked with Vincent D'Indy, and was also associated with Paul Dukas. Despite a long career, his compositional output is small, dating mainly from before 1930. he is known primarily as music critic for La Republique Francaise and other publications, and as music engraver and translator. it was he who translated Tristan and Isolde into French.
