Originally written by Georges Bizet as incidental music for Daudet's 1872 play L'arlesienne, Carillon, as the descriptive title indicates, calls for a set of fixed bells struck by hammers. Above the ringing bells. performed by the lower strings. is a beautiful contrasting melody scored in the violins. The middle section provides a nice harmonic contrast as well as a style and mood change. Exactly what you've come to expect when looking at the superb arrangements of Robert D. McCashin. Slightly more advanced than Beginning Strings, this series begins to involve more position work and a slightly more complex rhythmic figures. Rehearsal piano is often provided.
