The poet came to the composer with a request to set her words and melodic thoughts in song form, the end result being a varied collection of styles, ranges, vocal difficulty, and instrumental accompaniment. "Reflections" is for medium-low voice, piano, and clarinet and is only moderately difficult for the singer. A minor challenge can be found in the angularity of the melody. The text might suggest that it is more suited to a male voice, but a woman could certainly sing it. The piece demands a competent pianist and clarinetist and sounds distinctly early 20th century French. One cannot mistake the homage to Erik Satie.
