A tongue in cheek combination of English sea shanty and Jewish scales, with a bit of Klezmer, a hint of Spanish flamenco and a large helping of English folksong.
The tunes used are: What shall we do with the drunken sailor Johnny Todd, Hava Nagila and various connecting melodic lines.
The mode sways between typical middle-Eastern scales and the Dorian mode (the original mode of the drunken sailor song). The pdf file contains score and parts. The audio sample is the first live performance by the Camara Klezmer Trio, for whom it was written.
(It starts with the sound of the sea and the performers coming on stage singing "What shall we do with the drunken sailor")
