After writing the Menuet antique (1895), Ravel create
the MENUET IN C-SHARP MINOR at the same period as his
Sonatine for piano (1903-1905). So, he returned as many
of his contemporaries in the early years of the
twentieth century (Saint-Saëns, Debussy, d'Indy,
Roussel), to this dance of French origin, with the
?Menuet sur le nom de Haydn? (1909) and the menuet in
?Le Tombeau de Couperin? (1914-1917).
